Who is Mr.Foodie?

Its no secret amongst people that know me and people I’ve just met that I love food, I love to eat, I love to cook and I love travel. I started this blog and site to share my experiences of eating, cooking, travelling and more as more and more people kept telling me I should do something about it. My hope and intention for this blog is for you to find something of value, fun and interest so you will come back again and again.

For me cooking allows me to give to those I care about, to have a creative outlet much like someone playing music or painting. I love cooking things that I’ve learnt on my travels and bringing a piece of that journey home for others. Eating stimulates all my senses. Travelling fills my life with experiences that I am able to share with everyone.

Ask my wife, if I’m not eating then I’m thinking about what to eat next. I’m always thinking about what to cook and what I can create. In fact most of the my travel decisions, how I spend my free time and thoughts revolve around food.

For me, travelling regularly and exploring what the world has to offer has been the most rewarding things I have done. It has allowed me to understand other people, cultures and different ways of doing things that I would have otherwise not been able to do. I do really believe that to understand a person, a culture, a society you need to see where and how they buy their food, eat with them and eat what they eat.

There is so much variety out in the world, so many different tastes, so many smells and so many elevating sensory experiences that can be delivered through food…. that it would take a life time to try everything… a challenge I like.

My food influences are British, Italian, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, Balinese, Singaporean, Chinese, South Indian, North Indian, Sri Lankan, Moroccan, Caribbean and of course Japanese. You will probably find that this blog has more of an Asian bias as that is the food I really love to eat and also spend a lot of time travelling in that region. Saying that there are some great places at home in London that I will also be writing about.

Growing up and living in the UK is something I very grateful for. I read in the Daily Mail a while back that there is at least one person from every country on the planet, living in the UK. No other country on the planet can boast something so phenomenal. Living in the UK all my life has exposed me to so many cultures, so many types of people, so many opportunities to see the world and some of the best food anywhere.

I don’t just mean 5 star and often pretentious food…. I’m talking about humble food, good food, comfort food, healthy food… things that make you feel good, healthy and nourished… cooked by somebody with passion and love for what they do, someone real. I believe in eating well AND eating what you want rather than worrying about a diet… ultimately your body knows best.. eat like a pregnant woman is my motto :)

The only things I will really take with me when I leave this life are my experiences and I’d rather those experiences be of travelling the world, meeting friendly people everywhere I go and eating the best food… and being able to share those experiences with you all is important to me… so far I’m not doing to badly!

I do accept samples, books etc, but expect me to be honest – good or bad. I do not accept money for writing anything on this blog as I do it because its my passion… and when I find something / someone to tell the world about I do. My writing may not be the best or most eloquant, but I write what I feel and I’ll only ever write things that are true to me, to what I like and to what I feel anyone reading this would want to read.

On this blog you’ll find recipes – some of mine, some from people I know, some adapted. You’ll find reviews of restaurants I’ve eaten it or eat in regularly and you’ll find experiences from my travels

I’m very grateful for being able to share my experiences with you and hope you enjoy what I write about. Please do leave comments as I will reply, and you can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter – so please do!

If you want to write me a guest blog post, or want me to write a piece for you as a guest blogger or for a bit of freelance work then feel free to get in touch.

And if you are ever up for a sushi feast… then also get in touch!

Many thanks

Mr. Foodie ;)

  1. Dear Friend!
    Greetings from Shizuoka, Japan!
I’ve been intrigued by your message and Foodbuzz and decided to investigate. LOL
You say you live in london but are your roots?
I lived a long time in England when I went to college there, although I’m French and hail from Bourgogne/Burgundy.
I’ve lived in Japan for 34 years and think I was extremely lucky to go there first (I never moved sincethen) as this is THE gastronomic region of Japan. Just as an example Shizuoka is the birthplace of wasabi and still produces 80% of it in Japan as well as 45% of green tea.
    Looking forward to sharing!
I truly like people who advertize their own region’s gastronomy, be it London of Bourgogne (or Shizuoka!)!
    Best regards,
    Robert-Gilles
